Many Muslim scholars will argue about celebrating Mothers day as it is a non Muslim event, but a recent meeting with a local scholar left me at ease about the subject. A mother is the most special person in one’s life, and although there is no one day that can pay back for all the long and sleepless nights that a mother spends caring for her child, or the numerous sacrifices she makes on a daily basis to protect and support her child, a special day dedicated just for the moms does not in any way contradict the teachings of Islam. In fact, Islam stresses the importance of showing love and respect towards your mother at several occasions throughout the Quran.

Giving Islamic gifts to your mother for Mothers day can go a long way in showing her that she really does hold a special place in your life and heart. Children often get so entangled in their own lives that they forget to take the time out of their schedules to let their moms know that how much they are appreciated.
