The Path to Nursing
April 5th, 2010 by admin
For those of you who have an interest in nursing and a change of career but you just don’t seem to have the time, you may want to consider online nursing assistant training. The coursework for these programs is much shorter than pursuing an RN license. In many cases you can complete a CNA course in just 6 to 8 weeks and you are almost assured of job placement immediately due to the need for CNAs in the job market.
Once you complete your online certified nurse assistant training you are well on your way to beginning your study to become an RN. Unlike the coursework for nursing, most programs for nursing assistants are done at self-pace, which will allow you to complete the course in less than 6 weeks if you are so inclined.
Another difference with online certified nursing training is that you can actually do your clinical work online. Most CNA programs will allow you to do everything online. You can register online, do course work online, and even take your CNA exam online. It’s all at the convenience of the student and once certified, most of these programs will even help in job placement.
Getting your CNA certification is one of the easiest and best ways to get your foot in the door in the healthcare industry. The top online schools for nursing assistants are similar to the top online schools for nursing; Kaplan University, The University of Phoenix, Indiana State University, and The College Network. All of these schools are very good at assisting students with financial aid and have been doing online education for many years.
As a certified nursing assistant you will find yourself on the front line of the healthcare industry, and while it may not be the most glorified title in healthcare, a nursing assistant is definitely a vital position in the daily operation of a hospital. CNAs work under the direct supervision of a nurse and provide daily care for patients, including daily grooming, feeding, and bathing. They will also assist nurses with medical equipment and checking a patient’s vital signs. In many cases the very best RNs will have started their career as a CNA.
